Conservation Experiences

A visit to the reserve’s Tango K9 Anti-poaching unit is a highlight for guests wishing to learn more about how their stay contributes to conservation.
This behind-the-scenes experience offers a fascinating insight into the work of these highly trained dogs and their handlers, and the vital role they play in safeguarding Greater Kruger’s wildlife.
Guests may request a visit to the Tango K9 Anti-Poaching Unit in Thornybush Nature Reserve to learn about the role trained dogs and their handlers play in protecting endangered species and other wildlife.
Tango K9 is an independently operated, not-for-profit conservation organisation. Visits are not included in Shimungwe’s accommodation rate and cannot be guaranteed. They depend entirely on the availability and operational commitments of the Tango K9 team.
When a demonstration can be arranged, guests are required to make a donation to the organisation. The applicable details will be confirmed when Shimungwe enquires on the guest’s behalf.
