At Shimungwe Lodge, our twice-daily guided game drives and immersive safari activities offer guests the opportunity to encounter Africa’s most iconic wildlife while enjoying a personalised, intimate safari experience.

A Typical Day on Safari

A typical day begins with an early morning game drive, followed by breakfast back at the lodge. Guests then have time to relax in their suites or around the pool, enjoying the facilities, observe wildlife around the lodge and in the riverbed. In the late afternoon, we head out again for an evening game drive, ending in the dark, using spotlights. The day often concludes with dinner under the stars, reflecting on the day’s sightings.

Planning Your Safari Experiences

Twice-daily game drives are included in your stay. Informal birdwatching and stargazing around the lodge can also be enjoyed at no additional cost.

Guided nature walks are available at an additional cost per person and should be arranged in advance.

Visits to the reserve’s K9 anti-poaching unit depend on the availability of the independent team. Guests are asked to make a donation directly to the organisation when a demonstration is arranged.

Specialist safaris and retreats may be organised as part of a private lodge buyout. Guests appoint and pay their chosen photographer, yoga instructor or other specialist independently. Our team can recommend suitable third-party facilitators if assistance is required.
