At Shimungwe, dinner rarely looks the same two nights in a row. One evening it might be a boma fire crackling under a sky thick with stars; the next, a table set quietly on the central deck, the Timbavati riverbed dark and still below. What stays consistent is the quality of food itself: locally-sourced, home-cooked, unhurried, and shaped around the rhythm of the day rather than a fixed dining room clock.
Dining at Shimungwe Lodge is relaxed, generous and thoughtfully prepared by our experienced in-house chefs. Meals are included in your stay and served in different settings around the lodge, from indoor dining areas to outdoor tables overlooking the seasonal Timbavati riverbed.
Before the morning game drive, enjoy fresh coffee and homemade biscuits. On your return, a continental and cooked-to-order breakfast awaits. A light, European-inspired lunch is served later in the day before the afternoon game drive.
Dinner is a three-course menu combining comforting home-style food with creative presentation. Depending on the weather and occasion, guests may dine beneath the African sky or gather around the traditional boma fire.
With advance notice, our chefs can accommodate most dietary requirements and food allergies. Halal or kosher meals can be sourced from specialist suppliers at an additional cost. Shimungwe does not operate a certified halal or kosher kitchen or separate preparation facilities, so please discuss these requirements with our reservations team before booking.
